This week we saw another regular instalment of Kenny Allstar’s Mad About Bars show on Mixtape Madness. The show has risen to be one of the most important freestyle platforms in the UK, edging out the competition and making it a staple of the UK scene.
Except this week wasn't a regular instalment at all - it saw Ghetts, the veteran grime MC, make his debut on the show, clearly in album mode, with he and producer Ten Billion Dreams coming like Lebron and Dwayne Wade in a quick 3 minute session of lyrical exercise.
Ghetts’ flows are skilled, and his wordplay and punchlines remain elite, with standout lines playing on G-Unit members' names. He touches on everything from his mental state, brands like Canada Goose and Moncler and even the ‘black man as the original Israelite’ theory.
Every now and again someone comes on Mad About Bars and sets the standard - Skengdo & AM, KO, Smoke Boyz, Meekz - and now Ghetts has put his name firmly in this conversation. You can watch that and make your mind up below.
